Obedience Through Flexibility

Updated: Nov 8, 2019

Proverbs 19:21 says “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

I’m so thankful for this verse in Proverbs! It reminds me that as much as I plan ahead, try to be organized, put-together and schedule activities, events, meetings, etc… God is ultimately in charge of what happens each and every day. I can rest in the fact that He will direct my steps.

Two themes that come to mind for the months of September and October have been obedience and flexibility. As Sidewalk Funday School missionaries, we are trying to instill the concept of obedience into the hearts of the children that we are ministering to. Obedience is not only a difficult concept for children to understand, adults struggle with it as well. Here are some of the important truths from September:

- When you learn about God, it’s easier to follow Him.

- Trust and obey, even when you think your way is better.

- Trust and obey even when others don’t.

- Trust and obey even if you don’t know how it will work out.

How about you? Does obedience come easy for you? The more we learn about God and the Bible, we will see that His way is best and we can rest in the fact that He is in control.

Being flexible is another theme of our first semester of Sidewalk Funday School. It’s been somewhat of a rough start to Funday school as we have dealt with numerous issues with our sound equipment. Some days we had to go without the television or the microphone. Sometimes it was hard for the children to hear the videos or the site leader. It would have been easy to be frustrated and discouraged but we kept our focus on our mission: Reaching boys and girls with the love of Jesus Christ! We have been reminded that we have an enemy who does not like what we are doing and will try and put up roadblocks and obstacles to try and keep us from sharing the Gospel. We have felt like our ministry has been under attack. Thankfully, God always gives us the victory and we will continue to keep our eyes on Jesus!

I Corinthians 15:58 says “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
