Program Director

Job Type: Full Time

Location: Jacksonville, FL

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

Position Overview:

The program director will oversee all aspects of the youth apprenticeship preparation program to support high school students (ages 12-16) living in subsidized housing. The Program Director will manage the program's day-to-day operations across three sites, facilitate community partnerships, lead student recruitment, and coordinate mentorship and enrichment activities. The Director will ensure program success through regular student engagement, workshops, field trips, and mentorship sessions. This role will also include overseeing student intake, tracking progress, and maintaining strong communication with families and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Program Management & Coordination·

    • Manage the daily operations of the youth apprenticeship preparation program, including workshops, mentor-student group meetings, field trips, and resource fairs.·

    • Ensure program activities align with the curriculum objectives of academic and professional skills, transportation and independence, apprenticeship preparation, and life skills.·

    • Oversee logistics for three subsidized housing sites, including scheduling workshops, mentor meetings, and enrichment activities.·

    • Coordinate the intake process for students to assess academic, personal, and professional development needs.·

    • Regularly track student progress and mentor engagement, adjusting support plans based on individual student needs.

  2. Community Engagement & Partnerships·

    • Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations, schools, trade unions, businesses, and nonprofits to provide services and support for the program.·

    • Organize quarterly resource fairs at each housing complex to introduce families and students to available community programs, services, and job opportunities.·

    • Serve as the primary contact for students and families, providing ongoing communication about community resources and available support services.·

    • Facilitate referrals to external programs or services that can supplement the program's curriculum (e.g., tutoring, financial literacy programs, driver's education).

  3. Mentor & Volunteer Coordination·

    • Recruit, train, and manage mentors paired with 2-3 students each, ensuring practical guidance and support throughout the program.·

    • Organize mentor-student group meetings, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.·

    • Ensure mentors have the tools and resources to support students in setting goals, developing life skills, and preparing for apprenticeship opportunities.·

    • Oversee faith-based character education activities and teen bible study.

  4. Program Monitoring & Evaluation·

    • Implement a progress tracking system to monitor students' academic performance, skill development, and overall engagement with the program.· Conduct quarterly check-ins with students and mentors to assess progress and adjust individualized student plans.·

    • Gather feedback from students, families, and mentors to continuously improve the program.·

    • Prepare regular reports on program outcomes, challenges, and areas for improvement, presenting updates to the Executive Director and stakeholders.

  5. Family & Student Support·

    • Maintain regular communication with students' families, providing updates on progress and upcoming events.·

    • Engage families in the program through resource fairs, workshops, and informational sessions.·

    • Serve as a resource for families to connect them to external services, including academic support, financial literacy, transportation, and workforce development programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in education, theology, social work, nonprofit management, or a related field (master's degree is preferred).·

Experience:

  •  3-5 years of experience managing community-based programs, preferably with youth or underserved populations.

  • Proven experience managing partnerships, organizing events, and working with mentors or volunteers.

  • Experience with youth development, workforce preparation, or apprenticeship programs is highly desired.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students, families, and community partners.

  • Proficiency in program development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting, with attention to detail and data tracking.

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple sites and program components.·

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with subsidized housing communities, apprenticeship programs, or workforce development initiatives.

  • Understand the challenges underserved youth face and have a passion for helping them achieve personal and professional success.
